Our Early Years - Nursery and Reception

Early Years - Nursery & Reception

A nurturing start that inspires a love of learning

At Lytham Hall Park Primary and Nursery, we know that the Early Years are the most important first steps in your child’s educational journey. During this special stage, children develop their confidence, curiosity and independence and we are passionate about giving them the very best start.

Our provision combines high-quality teaching, purposeful play and a carefully designed environment to help every child feel happy, safe and excited to learn.

Expert Teaching and nurturing care

Your child will be taught and cared for by a dedicated team of highly skilled, experienced practitioners who truly understand how young children learn best.

  • Our teachers hold Leading Early Years Practitioner status through Lancashire, recognising their expertise and leadership in Early Years education
  • Staff carefully balance structured teaching with play-based learning, ensuring children develop both key skills and a love of learning
  • Adults take time to get to know each child as an individual, tailoring support, challenge and care to meet their unique needs
  • Strong relationships are built with families, so learning is supported both at school and at home

A strong focus on communication and language

We place communication at the heart of everything we do, because we know that strong language skills underpin all future learning.

  • We use ELKLAN strategies to create a communication-friendly environment, helping every child feel confident to speak, listen and express their ideas
  • Our staff are trained to model high-quality language, introduce new vocabulary and support children to use full sentences in meaningful contexts
  • Children who need additional support benefit from the NELI programme, a structured, evidence-informed intervention that helps develop understanding, vocabulary and speaking skills
  • Daily interactions, stories, songs and role-play opportunities immerse children in rich language experiences throughout the day

Learning beyond the classroom – Forest School

Our weekly Forest School sessions are a much-loved part of Early Years life, giving children the opportunity to learn in our beautiful outdoor setting.

  • Children explore the natural environment through hands-on activities such as den building, nature exploration and creative outdoor play
  • They develop independence by making choices, taking managed risks and learning to solve problems for themselves
  • Activities build resilience and confidence, helping children persevere and feel proud of their achievements
  • Outdoor experiences nurture teamwork, communication and curiosity in a calm, engaging environment

An incredible learning environment

We are incredibly proud of our Early Years environment, which has been thoughtfully designed to support every aspect of your child’s development.

Indoors:

  • Welcoming classrooms with clearly organised areas for different types of learning
  • Opportunities for imaginative play, construction, reading, writing, maths and creative exploration
  • Resources that encourage children to become independent learners, making choices and leading their own play
  • Adults guide learning through high-quality interactions, ensuring every moment has purpose and impact

Outdoors:

  • A large, highly engaging outdoor learning space used every day, whatever the weather
  • Areas for physical development, investigation, imagination and quiet reflection
  • Opportunities for children to move freely between indoor and outdoor learning, following their interests
  • A space that supports active learning, builds physical skills and encourages exploration

Building strong foundations for the future

Everything we do in Early Years is focused on developing the skills and knowledge children need to thrive.

  • Carefully planned learning ensures children build strong foundations in early reading, writing and mathematics
  • Children are supported to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes to learning
  • We place a strong emphasis on personal, social and emotional development, helping children build friendships and understand themselves and others
  • Every child is supported to feel successful, valued and ready for the next stage of their learning journey

Working in partnership with families

We believe that the best outcomes for children come when school and home work closely together.

  • Regular communication keep families informed about learning and development
  • Opportunities for workshops and shared learning help support children at home
  • We are always available to talk, listen and work together to ensure all our children thrive
